We've stuck together, worked
hard and believed in a dream. In just the two years we've been around
we've been covered by every major newspaper in Eastern India,
been featured on TV channels "Star Plus" as well as "Star
News", play every Thursday at Someplace Else, The Park, Calcutta
etc etc. But most importantly we've won over people with our music everytime
we've played and we've been able to release our own album -"The
Night Is Young" under our own recording label; Orient Express
Productions.
The Man Behind It All Orient Express has been the coming true of one guy's dream. He's the leader and the mentor- Mr. Monojit Datta. An authority on Latin percussions, he has hand picked the musicians himself. He's played with contemporary Indian music stalwarts like Ranjit Barrot and Louis Banks, Karl Peters etc., toured all over India with the rock band "Shiva", won crticical acclaim with his world music project "Do for Brother" but it's The Orient Express he's chosen as a vehicle to convey that creative music in India is alive and well... The Music We are a Latin, Latin Jazz band. The music we play ranges from original compositions to Latin and Jazz standards, contemporary jazz to jazz rock. From Coltrane to Weather Report, from Autumn Leaves to Santana, we love playing it all. The idiom is Latin, but the canvas is wide open. We have our own sound, and we are the only ones in the country doing what we are doing. We are the only authentic Latin band with Congas bongos, Timbales Guido Clave and the whole battery of Latin Percussions. We've been playing together for 2 and a half years and wherever we've played, the reaction has been, "We've never heard anything like this before!" The Musicians Monojit Datta: Clarinet, congas, bongo, timbales, guido, drums. Dwaipayan Saha : Bongo, congas, timbales, guido, drums. Subhankar Ganguli: Guido, clave, congas, bongo, maracas.
